For over 40 years, the men and women of Shipman Volunteer Fire Department have stood ready to answer the call across Greene County and beyond. No salary, no obligation — just neighbors protecting neighbors.
The Shipman Volunteer Fire Department isn't just a first responder team — it's the backbone of emergency protection for an entire community. Founded in the 1980s along Shipman Road, what started as a handful of concerned residents has grown into a disciplined, well-equipped crew that responds to everything from structure fires to vehicle accidents across Greene County.
Every member carries a full-time job, raises a family, and answers the bell when it rings. There's no paycheck for the calls we make at 2 a.m. or the weekends we sacrifice during hurricane season. What drives us is simpler than that: the people in this community are our neighbors, our friends, and the reason we show up.
From wildfire containment to car accident rescue, our crew handles it all — with the same dedication whether it's a routine call or the biggest alarm of the year.
Residential, commercial, and industrial fires — we respond with full equipment and trained personnel, day or night, across our entire jurisdiction.
Highway accidents, entrapment extrication, and hazardous material incidents — our crew is trained and equipped for the most demanding rescues.
Greene County's rural landscape brings its own fire risks. We patrol, respond, and contain brush and wildland fires before they spread.
Mississippi Gulf Coast storms demand rapid response. We coordinate with state and federal agencies during hurricanes, floods, and severe weather events.
We visit schools, community events, and senior centers to teach fire prevention, escape planning, and emergency preparedness — because the best fire is the one that never starts.
From participating in parades and fundraisers to providing water rescue and medical assistance, we're active participants in everything that makes Lucedale strong.
Shipman Volunteer Fire Department is always looking for people who want more from their community. You don't need experience — we'll train you. You don't need to quit your day job — you just need to show up when we call.
